So returning to the original nature of this blog, here is a post from my girlfriend about people who need to get over themselves:
So I go to NYU, which is my own fault, and therefore I don’t think my complaining is warranted. However, there is one kid in my class who just needs to GET OVER IT! So the class is called American Bohemia [yeah I basically bring it upon myself, I mean what kind of kids do you think this class would attract], and there’s this English major who on the first day, decided that instead of simply giving his name & year during the introductions, he should go on a five minute rant about how he loves On The Road. And of course, it didn’t stop there. The next week, he somehow decided that it was relevant to talk about punk rock selling out, which is really a topic you shouldn’t get me started on because as much as I wish that bands would stay small forever, as long as they don’t attract idiot fans I am all for them making money and becoming rock stars. I just wanted to say “have you ever heard of Sonic Youth? They’re on a major but I don’t think anyone would ever accuse them of being ’sell-outs’” but I was not going to get into it with him. So then this week [which sparked this post] he somehow led a discussion on Baudelaire into him proclaiming that anyone who is an artist and wealthy is an “empty shell” and that it’s better to be poor and “spiritually rich.” These are direct quotes kids, I couldn’t make it up if I tried. So my response is: YOU GO TO NYU!!!!! This school is ridiculously expensive, and if you’re gonna sit there and talk shit about people making money then you better get the fuck out of here because even with loans and the like, you’ve gotta have some substantial amount of money to be attending. It was so annoying and even the professor didn’t really understand what his point was. And, as luck would have it, he feels it necessary to SHOUT every word he says. The class is painful and this kid needs to be told: GET OVER YOURSELF!
