RIYL - Small Brown Bike, Hot Water Music

WOW…This record is beyond amazing. These guys really know what the fuck is up when it comes to making amazing music. Sometimes Things Just Disappear is the definition of what has been mostly missing in music for the past 10 years. It’s  almost too good to put into words.  Bands might as well not release anything else this year because this is sure to top my list in December. BUY THIS RECORD NOW.

Its hard to pull a few tracks i dig because I love the whole thing but here is a few:

Eat Dinner, Bury The Dog, and Run

Our Ballads

RIYL - Bear Vs. Shark, Silent Majority, Polar Bear Club

So since I was rocking my Jump Start hoodie today I felt that it seemed fitting to squeeze this review in. I try to keep my reviews short and sweet for two reasons, A) I might be at work and found 3 mins to blog and B) I am not the most prolific writer in the world.

Anyways

Jena Berlin is a 4 (sometimes 5) piece band hailing from the city of brotherly love Philly. They play a raw and rocking brand of post-hardcore. This record has all the elements in a rock record that i love, good production, awesome raw vocals, and perfectly crafted music. There is not one bad track on this album. I could break it down song by song for you but fuck that this record speaks for it self so go out and pick it up. They are on top of the wave of newer bands coming out now with a similar sound. This is an album that will not be leaving my stereo for a long time. Also if you ever get the chance to see them live do so, they are great live.

Also I am a big fan of Jump Start Records. Jeremy puts out some great records so when you stop by the site to pick up this record check out some of the other releases.

Here are a few track form Quo Vadimus:

RIYL - Mates Of State, Lemuria

I have been hearing a ton of buzz about this band around the Internet, so I was excited to get this record in the mail. Not taking the time previously to look further into this band I was kinda taken back going into it seeing as its a two piece drummer and keys band. It is also odd that I was taken back due to the fact that I am a huge fan of Mates Of State (you know you are too!). The record kicks off with the track The Golden Ghost. This song is up beat and fun. Going through the record the songs maintain this upbeat and fun nature. Their sound is like a more punk rock Mates Of State. that may sound silly but thats the vibe i get. I can see this band making moves beyond the house show circuit they tour in ( nothing wrong with that at all!). This album is perfect for a spring time drive or if you don’t drive, bike ride or whatever transportation you happen to take. Also A+ on the packaging.

Here are some tracks from the record that I was into:

Apple Inc. Is Like an Abusive Spouse
March 21, 2008, 9:25 am

So after my Ipod breaking a few weeks back and my laptop (which i loved dearly) kicking the bucket this week, i have decided to go into debt some more and continue to keep my credit score in the dumps. I am being a little over dramatic when i say Apple is like an abusive spouse because i did have my Powerbook for close to four years and the only reason it doesn’t work is because the screen is broke. BUTTT my Ipod on the other hand is like #28949378303839383032849583030393839347393 roughly. But for some reason anytime my ipod craps out on me i go running back to Apple. So I am now the proud owner of a 15″ mac book pro and an 80gig Ipod classic. ANYWAYS, the whole point of the post is to say that i do have a new lap top, i will be posting more, i can listen to music on the subway, and that i am going to try and get the review of Slingshot Dakota up today (while i’m at work shhhhh).

RIYL - The Get Up Kids, The Promise Ring

So when i took a glance at this record i noticed it was on Civil Defense League, which is Jim Ward’s label. So i thought to myself well this dude has a decent track record he was only in the greatest band of all time At The Drive-In and shit even Sparta had one good EP. I pop the record on and from the first track i was hooked. the music is quite reminiscent of early Get Up Kids with more modern pop punk style vocals. This is a perfect combo for me. as the album goes on the tracks get better and better, with the exception of “Don’t Go To Hell” i could have done with out that song at least in the middle of the record. Another awesome thing about this band is that they are a three piece which i feel is badass if you can pull it off and they do. I hope this band sticks around i can see good things moving forward. So to wrap this all up this band is perfect for the person who loves pop punk but doesn’t want to be looked down upon for it. Do yourself a great favor and pick this record up its only 7.99 on itunes. If there is a vinyl version out there i need to pick it up if not get on that.

Bad News Bears

So I’m posting this from my blackberry. Why you may ask? Well because I came home from work and my computer screen was broke. This is quite the bummer :(. If anyone who has a mac you know that its a cool grand to fix the screen so I kinda just got to suck it up and buy a new computer. The only problem with this is that bills and rent get in the way (and the occasional record purchase). So I will have to post from work when I can. If you feel like being a sweetheart and donate some cash even if its 50 cents I would love you forever. You can paypal me @ jaymegonz@gmail.com .

In better news;
Chuck from bear trap PR sent me a bunch of records so I will have some reviews coming soon. Some awesome records in that batch.
